On page 54 and 55, Dr. Hunt states: "Dignity... means you have a good reputation and are respected by others. This distinction does not come with a title or a position but is earned day by day. And what is earned in a lifetime can be lost in minutes". My dad once told me that I needed to live a life worthy of the respect that I wanted others to give me. And on the same coin, he'd tell me: "if you go out and act like a fool, then don't fuss when people treat you like you are a fool". I used to watch how I lived (though I didn't do it well enough) because I didn't want to hurt or bring embarassment to my family. But how much more should we long to live "right" because we don't want to hurt or bring embarassment to the Lord and His Kingdom. Not that my family is not important, but His Name is so far greater. If we could only understand the damage we do for the work of Christ, all because of the sin we selfishly hold on to each and every day. And, as Dr. Hunt stated, a lifetime of good can be destroyed by a minute of poor judgement.
I am overloaded with great info in this chapter. It may take a while for me to process all this. (Im kinda slow).
This will be off the subject of this chapter but, Hunt quotes Junior Hill and he is absolutely one of my favorites. He said "If youre too big for the little churches, then youre too little for the big churches." (to Pastors) Then Hunt says the same applies to our relationships: If we are too big for the little guy, then we are too little for the big guy.
I think out of this chapter this is the statement I will take with me. Am I too big for the little guy? The one who lives in a shack who drives a car that is pieced together? If I am going to reach people for Christ shouldnt I be going after this one? Let me ask a question....Who is going after him? Do any churches target him? And, when he does come to church do we persue him like we would someone who drives a volvo? Im sorry if this was off the subject, its just what I am taking with me.
In chapter 12 the writer of Hebrews issues Christians a challenge to run the race of faith. In order to do so we must lay aside every encumbrance and sin that so easily entangles us. We have to learn to run with endurance and keep our eyes fixed on our example, Jesus Christ. How do we accomplish this in our society? We lock arms with other men of faith and run the race.
This blog is dedicated to a “technical” approach to locking arms. This blog is dedicated to online book studies for men. We will read certain chapters from chosen books. Then we will post comments to encourage, inspire, and in some cases stir up other men. So, you are invited to join our online discussion. More importantly, will you accept the challenge to run the race of faith?
