I really enjoyed hearing Pastor Johnny’s testimony. It is refreshing to hear a testimony that does not have salvation as its ultimate end. Johnny spent a lot of time talking about how his life was changed after he was saved.
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard someone give a testimony that spends 95% of their time bringing glory to sin. Sometimes it sounds like they still have fond memories of their days in slavery to sin. This is just a little pet peeve of mine.
Don’t get me wrong : There is a place for talking about where we come from but we need to also balance that with what God has done in our life since trusting Christ.
God’s power is magnified in a changed life. God is not only the God of eternal salvation but He is also the God of daily deliverance from the Lifestyle defining sin that once enslaved us.
1 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
"Isnt it amazing how we can disguise ourselves to look like we're on our way to Heaven?"
We have had a student coming to our youth group for a few months now. He has had all the sunday school answers for every question. I began to watch him for a few weeks and thought surely he is saved. This past Sunday evening I was talking to him and he said "Mike, I asked Jesus to come into my life and he is now my savior, I would love to be baptized."
Man, lesson learned. I read where D.L. Moody said he looked at everyone with an L on their forehead, and the L was for LOST! He said it stayed there untill he found out if they REALLY knew Christ.
Brent...Glad to have you with us! Great point about our testimonies. Its not just about what God has done for us but what he is now doing for us also. Thanks for the wise words.
Mike…That’s amazing. Keep up the ministry and fighting the fight.
Check this out, “You no longer measure yourself by someone at church; you measure yourself by Jesus Christ, the sinless perfect Son of God” (pg. 13). I’ve been guilty of thinking I’m a pretty good ole’ guy. I’ve thought many times I’m just as good if not better than the next person. Then I hear a quote like the one above. Kicks me like a mule right in the teeth.
Glad to be back together, and to be reading Dr. Hunt's book. I also have a copy of Dr. Hunt giving his testimony in sermon form, as told through this book, if anyone would like a copy, just email me: revbrad51@windstream.net. I think the second page of the introduction speaks so well to why we need this accountability group. It states: "If we do not walk with God daily, then we will likely join the ranks of the fallen - those who have lost their testimony; those who no longer carry any 'spiritual credentials' on their 'spiritual resume'." We hear, far too many times, of the tragedies of men of faith, falling into some type of moral failure, and scaring their testimony, many times, for a lifetime. One of the reasons I love Johnny Hunt so much is he is so genuine. I've had the privilege of sitting under his preaching, and sitting at the dinner table with him, and he's the same at both: A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST. As I finished reading the first chapter, that's what I gained: our call to authenticity. To live changed lives that point others to Christ. That's my prayer for each of us, that we will each be men of integrity.
In chapter 12 the writer of Hebrews issues Christians a challenge to run the race of faith. In order to do so we must lay aside every encumbrance and sin that so easily entangles us. We have to learn to run with endurance and keep our eyes fixed on our example, Jesus Christ. How do we accomplish this in our society? We lock arms with other men of faith and run the race.
This blog is dedicated to a “technical” approach to locking arms. This blog is dedicated to online book studies for men. We will read certain chapters from chosen books. Then we will post comments to encourage, inspire, and in some cases stir up other men. So, you are invited to join our online discussion. More importantly, will you accept the challenge to run the race of faith?
